Learning Platforms

What type of culture is required to support collaboration in our learning community.

As Callaghan et al, (2008) suggest and our experience tells us, the following cultural factors are required to support collaboration:

This is group of people that reflect elements of team and community. They often work to a pressured deadline, have knowledge of each other’s skills and abilities through the work grape-vine, share a common purpose to provide quality service provision to vulnerable groups of society and often their identity is wrapped up in this topic….such as Healthy Workplaces or Child Protection etc… There are opportunities to practice new skills, leaders who would see value in the community such as the Director of Human Resources, strong executive sponsorship providing legitimacy to the learning activities, some members are good connectors  and pollinators (for frontline staff), whilst others care about the group and provide guidance and direction. Some will appreciate from the periphery and come and go. They may be silent, but are learning and carrying community learnings back to their team and the wider world.
